She Smiles
© 2007 by Joe Strell
Lend me your ears to listen for the wind
Drawn across the water by her hand
Hear the clouds drifting over the ocean
In this time she was born
Lend me your eyes to watch for her arrival
Firm upon a shore of battered sand
See her footprints fade beneath the waves
In this time she was born
And she will not surrender
In the dark of the night--she smiles
In the face of her fear--she smiles
In the heat of the fight--she smiles
In the midst of her tears--she smiles
Lend me your voice to call upon tomorrow
Singing softer than the passing of a dream
Laugh along with the scattered birds of morning
In this time she was born
Lend me your hand to touch the face of reason
Forgotten in the passion of a storm
Hold the thought for a moment swiftly passing
In this time she was born
And she will not surrender
In the dark of the night--she smiles
In the face of her fear--she smiles
In the heat of the fight--she smiles
In the midst of her tears--she smiles
And she will not surrender
In the dark of the night--she smiles
In the face of her fear--she smiles
In the heat of the fight--she smiles
In the midst of her tears--she smiles
